Meet Hailey!
Hailey Todd is a second year majoring in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in History. She served on the Spartan Orientation staff the summer after her first year and is currently serving as a Spartan Guide and the chapter president of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
Hailey mentioned that where she’s from, everyone goes to college. Like many people, the conversation was not if you go to college, but rather, when. She always wanted to get a higher education degree, as she saw it as a way to ensure a good life and education for herself.
Upon getting to UNCG, Hailey desperately wanted to make friends and connections her first year, and went about joining everything she could to make those connections, and was especially interested in joining a sorority. It was after serving on the orientation staff, however, that she realized how much she loved serving students and her peers. From there, she applied to be a Spartan Guide, which helps guide prospective students around the university through campus tours and events.
When it came to applying to schools, she stuck to applying exclusively to in-state schools, knowing that’s what she could afford. She says she wishes she would have been more focused on her grades in high school, which she learned had an impact on the scholarships she could qualify for.
When thinking about people who may be considering if they should pursue college or not, Hailey says if they’re able to make the jump (specifically financially), then go for it! She mentions that it can be really hard at times, but ultimately it’s a great experience that will open doors for you for the rest of your life.
