Lukas, UNCG Student, Class of 2023

My higher ed experience was chaotic. I came in from dual enrollment as a junior and am now in my second and final year. I was able to meet many amazing people in my field of study (History), and gain their advice and support. I joined several clubs and got board positions in them. I worked a few on-campus jobs. I completed full university honors and joined the honors frats. I feel as though my time here has meant something, and I’m a bit sad to be leaving. UNCG is a great school and I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to come here. There were some hiccups along the way, such as being roomed with a girl during the first week of my freshman year (I am a medically transitioned man and while I didn’t mean to make her uncomfortable, she expected a female roommate and I was not that) and a few other things regarding my status as a trans person. The budget cuts frighten me, as I hoped to attend grad school here but am now looking elsewhere. Overall though, the people who work and come to this university are good people. I’m glad I chose UNCG over any other institution.
